Fifty Years of Purpose, Partnership, and Progress

A Message from Our Executive Director and Board Chair

As we celebrate 50 years of Career Services, we do so with both gratitude and purpose.

This milestone is an opportunity to honour the people, partnerships, and shared commitment that have shaped who we are today—and to clearly articulate where we are going next.

Career Services was incorporated in 1976, founded by families in Brockville who believed that meaningful work should be possible for everyone. That belief continues to guide us. Over five decades, we have grown and adapted alongside our community, evolving into a unique organization that blends employment services with a strong industrial and co-packing business. This integrated model allows us to meet real employer needs while creating inclusive, sustainable employment opportunities for people facing barriers to work.

Our success has always been built on partnership. We are proud of the long-standing relationships we’ve developed with local manufacturers, employers, funders, families, and community organizations—many spanning more than 15 years. Throughout our history, Career Services has also been fortunate to be guided by a highly engaged and deeply committed Board of Directors, whose stewardship has helped ensure stability, accountability, and long-term impact. Together, these partnerships strengthen local businesses, create meaningful jobs, and contribute to a more inclusive and resilient community.

This anniversary is also deeply personal.

Cynthia Sparring, Executive Director, joined Career Services in 1984, beginning her career on the front lines in job development and job coaching as a Job Placement Officer. She later became Coordinator of Employment Services, then Assistant Executive Director, and in 2018, stepped into the role of Executive Director—following a leader who guided the organization for 40 years. Cynthia has witnessed firsthand the organization’s evolution and the lasting impact of inclusive employment on individuals, families, and employers.

Lianne Glendinning, Board Chair, brings a similarly deep connection to Career Services. She joined the Board more than ten years ago, continuing a family legacy of service after her father served for more than 20 years. This continuity of leadership reflects the long-term stewardship, care, and commitment that have always defined Career Services.

As we look ahead, our focus is clear. Guided by our Strategic Plan, we are committed to strengthening connections with employers and community partners, expanding inclusive employment opportunities, and ensuring long-term sustainability through our blended service and business model.

This year-long celebration is not only about reflecting on our past—it is about reaffirming our purpose and inviting our community to be part of the next chapter.

Thank you for being part of the Career Services story—past, present, and future. We look forward to celebrating with you throughout our 50th year.
