What is a Employability Determination?
A functional or situational assessment is an assessment of your skills and habits performing real work in a real work environment.
You will be asked to attend a work place and work. Some of the skills and habits that will be evaluated include: your attendance, learning style, interpersonal skills and productivity.
You may work for a specific time within Career Services industries, with a community employer or a combination. This on-the-job assessment gives you a chance to explore interests, learn about the world of work and gain valuable work experience.
Is information kept private?
All information is confidential. To better serve you, we sometimes find it valuable to consult with other professionals or people who know you well. Before discussing your case with anyone, your permission will be requested and you will have to sign a Release of Information Form.
Do I need a criminal reference / police records check?
You do not need a criminal reference check or police records check to receive services from Career Services, but you may need one if your are referred to an employer who requires one.
It is becoming very common for employers to request a Criminal Reference Check or Police Records Check and to impose hiring restrictions for recent convictions of certain charges.
Does Career Services require medical information?
Career Services requires information about medical conditions that may affect or restrict your participation in training or working. For example, we need to know if your doctor or your condition restricts how much you can lift or how long you can stand. We need to know the side effects of your medication(s).
In the interest of your health and safety, you may be asked to have your doctor complete a Medical Information Form.
Is there a cost for the service?
Usually, there is no cost for individuals with a disability who are receiving help from Career Services. However, if you are involved with an insurance company, W.S.I.B., or any agency that is receiving money to assist you, some fees may apply.
Is there a waiting list?
Yes, sometimes there is a waiting list, but we may not be able to give you a specific start date. Because of our commitment to individualized services and the unpredictability of the employment market timelines can be difficult to forecast.
What are some of the service options?
Choosing the best service option(s) depends on your experience and support needs. Career Services offers service paths to help you explore and prepare for the world of work and supports to help job seekers find and keep a “right fit” job.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes, you can bring someone with you, but the Intake Counsellor will meet with you alone at first. Later, the person or people who come with you will join the interview so everyone knows the plan for supporting your steps towards vocational or employment goals.
Why would I apply to Career Services?
There are many reasons why it may be difficult for you to find or keep a job.
It may be lack of education or work experience. It may be that your disability prevents you from performing all the duties in an advertised job or from working at a fast pace. It may be that employers are not used to hiring someone with a disability. It may be that you and your employer could benefit from advice about accommodations or adapting a job. It may be that you do not understand what is expected of you as an employee.
Career Services can help you identify your unique issues and assist you in overcoming or accommodating your barriers to employment.
Do I need to bring anything to the Intake Interview?
Bring any information that you have that is related to work such as a resume, school records, certificates or letters of reference from previous employers.
How long will I be at Career Services?
Your length of involvement will depend on your employment goals, how soon a good employment match becomes available or how long you will benefit from job maintenance supports. Our goal for all individuals is to transition to independence.
Do I have to pay Career Services?
No, Career Services is a not for profit that helps job seekers with Barriers reach there employment goals.
What kind of Employee would I get when working with Career Services?
Career Services Job Seekers are motivated individuals, our staff pride themselves on giving you employees that are the right fit.
What other supports does Career Services offer?
Career Service offers full employment supports including job coaching, our job coaches have a wealth of experience and can help with training and full on site employment supports.
What kind of training do Job seekers have?
Every Job Seeker is different, however as part of the Career Services On Boarding Process our Job Seekers receive WHMIS, AODA and Worker 4 Step training.

Is there any cost for picking up our business’ cardboard?
Within the Brockville area the pick-up is free. Outside Brockville a small fee is applied for our trucking service. We can provide bins for your cardboard and switch them out on a routine basis.
Will your Dock bays accommodate full size 53ft trailers?
Yes, we have 5 full sized truck bays, as well as 2 ground level bays. We can accommodate up to 14, 53 ft trailers on our site. We also have 2 forklifts to unload/load trailers and 2, 5 ton trucks onsite for delivery and pickups.
Do you offer production manpower for off-site locations?
Yes! We currently have crews of employees working at different sites throughout Brockville area. If your site is located out of Brockville area, we can arrange taxis to transport crews to the required location. This can be arranged for short or long-term work contracts.
We use custom machinery to make our products, can we send our machinery to your location to have your crews operate it?
Yes, we have several customers that have transferred their custom machinery to our location to assemble and package their products. Our building is fully equipped for most power requirements (including 3 phase 600amp). Many jobs are small run production, and we can accommodate this need. We also have trained machine operators, mechanics and machinists that can properly operate and maintain your equipment.
Do you have access to large warehouse areas if we have a one-time large production run?
Yes! Contact us with your needs and we can accommodate, we have close partnerships with local warehouses, trucking services, and staffing to get the job done!
Do you work from a set of Standard Operating Procedures? If so, what are they?
We do. In fact, we have spent over 40 years developing, testing, revising, and codifying them. We have volumes of detailed, industry-specific SOPs, from pharmaceutical, packaged goods, to food service companies.
What types of wood do you use in your pallet building?
We currently only use Heat Treated (HT) Softwood Lumber. However, we can accommodate and build to any specification. Our Lumber suppliers can source any kind of material from non-HT to Hard Wood.
We are looking to hire people for our company, is there a finder’s fee if we hire from your bank of people?
Our facility is focused on training and development to help people obtain work skills, we have no fees or costs for hiring. We actually encourage our staff to apply at many different jobs, and provide them with the supports to be successful.
I would like to work for Career Services production line, how do I apply? What is the process?
We always accept resumes by email [email protected] Our production needs change all the time, we keep all resumes on file and when we need to hire, we call from the submitted resumes. When we need additional staff, you will also see job postings on the Indeed and Employment and Education Centres (EEC) websites. As jobs become available, we review resumes and select possible candidates, and call successful candidates for an interview.
How will I be paid?
Career Services strives to be a ‘paperless’ organization, our employees are paid weekly via direct deposit.
Can I still apply if I am looking for part-time or weekend work?
Of course. We regularly recruit for several different shifts, and schedules. However, it helps to remain open to and flexible various shifts.
Can I register if I have no work experience?
Of course, everyone needs to start somewhere! Career Services prides itself in helping everyone attain employment.
